Rockwall-Heath softball team wins Area championship, blasts undefeated Hillcrest, 13-1

By J.J. Smith. Rockwall-Heath’s girls’ softball team won their 4A Area Championship Friday night in Richardson by blasting previously undefeated Dallas Hillcrest, 13-1.

Hillcrest had been 20-0 for the season and 12-0 in District play.

The Lady Hawks (14-10, 11-2) had advanced to the Area round by clobbering the 25th state-ranked McKinney Lady Lions last Saturday at Wylie High School, 6-2.

Victoria Combs was the winning pitcher, limiting Hillcrest to just five hits.

Combs also doubled, Dakota Whittern doubled twice and the Lady Hawks had 11 hits. Hillcrest also helped by committing five errors.

PLANO-Rockwall-Heath committed four costly errors and left eight runners on base, including five in scoring position, as the Lady Hawks lost their Class 4A Region IIÂ quarterfinal playoff game to Frisco WakelandÂ Tuesday, 4-0.

The loss endsÂ the highly successful season for the LadyÂ Hawks.Â Â With the victory, Wakeland (29-5) advances to play Forney in the regional semifinals.

Heath pitcherÂ Chelsea Eddy gave up only three hits, but Wakeland took full advantage of them and the Lady Hawks’ four errors.

Frisco scored in the top of the second inning, when they loaded the bases onÂ two singles and a walk. The run came on a ground out.

They scored their second run without a hit in theÂ fourth inning when Derian Dunn led off with a walk, moved to second on a ground out and came around to score when a bunt back to the mound was dropped on the throw to first base.

Heath’s best chances to score came in the fourth and fifth innings.

In the fourth, consecutive one-out singles by Sarah Deimling and Kaeleigh Lutz put runners on first and second with one out, but Cantu struck out the next two to end the inning. Heath got runners on second and third with one out in the fifth, but again Cantu struck out the next two hitters to end the threat.

Rockwall-Heath’s ace pitcher Chelsey Eddy pitched a five-inning no-hitter and struck out 11 as Rockwall-Heath (28-9)Â beat District 11-4AA Champion Seagoville, 12-0,Â Friday night a one-game Area playoff.

The Area’s seventh-ranked Lady Hawks, which finished the District 4-10A seasonÂ one game behind champion Rockwall, had 19 hits, including two doubles by Victoria Combs, one double by Dakota Whittern, plus triplesÂ by Devin Edgemon and Kaeleigh Lutz.

The Lady Hawks will advance to play their next playoff game vs. Frisco Wakeland Tuesday night at 7:30 pm at Plano East.

MCKINNEY-Rockwall-Heath’s Chelsey Eddy pitched a two-hit shutout and struck out eight to leadÂ the Hawks’Â sixth-ranked 4A team to a 2-0 victory over seventh-ranked McKinneyÂ last nightÂ in Game 3 of a best-of-3 Class 4A first-round playoff series.Â

Heath (27-9) hadÂ lost Game 2 last Saturday, 10-0, to McKinney (25-10-1), but Sarah Deimling and Dakota Whittern each had two hits Tuesday to helpÂ the HawksÂ win the series, two games to one.

Heath scored both of its runs in the bottom of the fifth,Â on a sacrifice fly from Devin Edgemon and an RBI single from Deimling.

The Hawks will now move on to play an Area playoff game later this week.

Rockwall-Heath softball team loses to McKinney, third playoff game Tuesday

Rockwall-Heath’s girls softball team lost the second of the three-game Bi-District playoff series against McKinney High School May 9 by a score of 10-0.

The Hawks had won the first game of the series, 1-0, lastÂ Friday.

The rubber game of the series will be today at 7 pm at Plano East High School. The winner advances to the Area playoffs later this week against a team yet-to-be-determined.

Rockwall knocks off Heath in softball showdown

No. 9 area-ranked Rockwall knocked off No. 4-ranked Heath 6-3 in a cross-town battle for District 10-4A supremacy on Tuesday at Rockwall’s Campbell Complex.

The victory gives the Lady Jackets (8-1) sole possession of first place in 10-4A, with Heath and Royse City tied for second with 7-2 records.

Dominant wins keep RISD softball atop 10-4A standings

Rockwall-Heath and Rockwall High School softball teams chalked up 57 runs against their opponents zero in a combined four games to maintain their hold on the District 10-4A lead, along with Interstate 30 neighbor Royse City.
