Free summer “Concert by the Lake” series begins this Thursday

ROCKWALL – Another season of free Thursday night concerts by the lake, sponsored by the City of Rockwall and presented by Rockwall Ford & Rockwall Dodge, will kick off May 9, 7:30 – 9 pm, when the Texas Soul & Blues Josh Weathers Band from Ft. Worth appears at The Harbor dining and entertainment district.

The last “Concert By the Lake” will be Aug. 8 with the Hunter Sullivan Big Band performing.

Following Weathers May 16 will be the Beatles Tribute band, Me & My Monkey; classic-rockers “Sound House, May 23; and Journey Tribute band Escape, May 30.

Regular favorites scheduled to play in 2012 include Tom Petty Tribute Band, Petty Theft, June 13; Johnny Cash Tribute Band, Walkin’ The Line, June 27; Texas Gulf Coast Band, Hanna’s Reef, July 18; and Bon Jovi tribute band Blaze of Glory, Aug. 1.

Concert-goers should bring a blanket or lawn chairs to sit on and are welcome to bring food and drinks. Trash clean-up when you leave is requested by the City.

The concert series has become so popular that an average of 3-5,000 people attend each week, according to the City’s Parks & Recreation department. Many of those who attend come from outside of the Rockwall area.
