Rockwall, Heath girls, boys gymnastics teams all qualify for state championship meet

ROCKWALL (Marcia Hasenyager photos) – The two-time defending State Champion Rockwall girls gymnastics team (left) will try to make it three in a row and capture their sixth state championship April 19-20, after the Lady Jackets and Rockwall boys gymnastics team (right) both won the Regional Championship at Heath High School’s gym last week and qualified for the state meet.

The Rockwall-Heath girls and boys gymnastics teams also qualified to compete in the State Championships when the Hawks girls and boys teams finished third.

In the girls competition, Rockwall won all four events and totaled 227.950 points to 223.450 for runner-up Highland Park and 215.000 for Heath.

The Lady Jackets won Vault with a score of 58.650, Uneven Bars with a 55.150, Beam with a 56.800 and Floor with a 57.350.

Lady Jacket Kailea Coles placed second in all-around, Shelbi Crawford finished in a tie for fifth (73.900) and Jamie Pultorak, finished seventh (72.700).

Coles finished first on Beam (19.700), second on Vault (19.650), tied for fourth on Floor (19.100) and fifth on Bars (18.000). Crawford finished third on Vault (19.500), third on Floor (19.150), seventh on Bars (17.850) and tied for 10th on Beam (17.400).

Lady Hawks Morgan Hines finished fourth (74.300) and Darion Mellorn eighth (71.050).

The Rockwall boys scored 327.500, with Garland second at 324.100 and the Hawks third at 319.300.

The Yellowjackets won Floor (56.200) and Pommel (54.300) while the Hawks won Rings (55.400) and tied with Garland on Vault (57.100).

Yellowjackets Michael Weidman placed third in All-Around (110.500) and Zach Bennett placed fifth (106.100).

Weidman tied for second on Floor (19.100), finished third on Parallel Bars (18.600), fourth on Rings (18.300) and High Bar (17.500), tied for fifth on Vault (19.100) and finished sixth on Pommel (17.900).

Bennett finished in a tie for second on Floor, third on High Bar, tied for fifth on Parallel Bars and tenth on Vault.

Jackets Jayson Copes also advances on Floor and Vault; Holt Erwin advances on Pommel; Bryce Singer on Rings and High Bar; Caleb Meyers on Parallel Bars; and Adam Alford on Floor.

Rockwall-Heath’s Trevor Newell and Cameron Callaway finished seventh and ninth, respectively, in All-Around.

Newell finished fifth on Pommel (18.000), third on Rings (18.400) and ninth on High Bar (16.100).

The Hawks also advance Cameron Callaway and Dylan Robbins on Floor, Vault and Rings; Alex Milner on Rings and Parallel Bars; as well as Brian Moore and Kai Hasenyager.
