New independent living senior retirement community to open in May

ROCKWALL – A 118-apartment independent living senior retirement community called Liberty Heights is currently under construction on Yellow Jacket Ln. just west of Highway 205 and is scheduled to open in early May.

Owned and built by the Hawthorn Retirement Group, which owns 55 additional senior communities in the U.S, Canada and England, Marketing Director Ellie Christopher compared their facilities to an all-inclusive resort or vacation.

“There’s always something going on and plenty of delicious food to eat whenever you want at our all-day coffee and snack bar,” she said, with a big smile on her face. “It’s like a cruise ship without the water!”

She said Hawthorn retirement communities make it possible for seniors to enjoy the benefits of living in a community environment, while maintaining independence and privacy. They offer a full complement of amenities and services, including studio, one and two bedroom private apartments with convenient kitchenettes and spacious bathrooms; all towels and linens; weekly housekeeping; no-charge laundry rooms and maintenance services; in-room thermostats; cable TV; drapes; vaulted ceilings; plus three delicious chef-prepared meals each day.

“We change people’s lives every day,” she said. “When you walk in, you’ll feel the difference.”

Liberty Heights will include a main dining room which seats about 150 people, plus a private dining room for residents who might want to invite family members or friends who live outside the community.

“The homemade food is absolutely delicious,” said Christopher. “I gained 25 pounds when I first came to work for Hawthorn communities. Our Liberty Heights chef, Arturo, specializes in desserts.”

In addition Hawthorn communities offer a wide variety of activities, including a wellness and fitness program, seasonal and holiday celebrations, an in-house movie theater, large screen TV room, activity rooms, billiards room, barber/beauty shop, a chapel, group outings and transportation for appointments and shopping.

Health and personal care services, including medication management and assistance with bathing, dressing, mobility, and other day-to-day needs are available from nurses and resident assistants.

“Because our management teams live at our communities, they are always available to assist our residents in the event of an emergency,” Christopher added.

Rent prices remain stable for one year and never rise more than three percent each year.

“We can keep prices low because we own our own construction company,” she said.

You can even live at Liberty Heights for free for a week, if you want to try it first.

“Of all the people who have stayed for a week at Hawthorn communities, I can only think of two who didn’t move in,” she said.
