ROCKWALL (by J.J. Smith) – I enjoyed some delicious charbroiled beef fajitas and great conversation with new acquaintances last Saturday night at the new Trevino’s Comida Mexicana Restaurant on the Downtown Square at 101 N. Goliad St.
You should definitely plan to visit this great “new” restaurant, too. I highly recommend it!
When I arrived around 6 pm, the restaurant was packed, yet it doesn’t even have a sign installed on the building.
So how could so many people already know about this new place?
It’s actually the new location of the former L’Trevino’s Mexican Restaurant, which for the past 24 years has been located between Wendy’s and Region’s Bank on Ridge Rd. near I-30.
Very friendly and polite owners Louis and Bertha Trevino told me they had to move quickly when their former building was purchased by Coldwell Banker-Apex Realtors owner Lorie Arnold for their new offices. Their son, Armando, told me that they also dropped the L’ from their name and will just call it Trevino’s.
The bright, cozy new location just west of the old County Courthouse will soon have a sign installed the Trevinos said. But they have such a large following that they probably don’t need to rush it.
Trevino’s serves large portions of authentic delicious food for reasonable prices. Their menu is large and includes a wide variety,, including all the tacos, burritos, enchiladas, chalupas, beef, chicken, shrimp and fish you would expect.
The sizzling platter of steak fajitas they served me was full of very tender, tasty strips of charbroiled beef, mixed with a load of grilled onions and peppers. The small side of queso I ordered extra was smooth and cheesy. The small, round tortillas were just the perfect size to eat the fajitas with. Guacamole, pico de gallo and sour cream were served with the fajitas but I don’t eat them so I can’t report on their taste. They looked good and fresh, however, and neighboring customers were devouring it. The chips and salsa were also excellent. The chips were crisp and the salsa mild but with a slight kick to it!
Judging by the smiles that I saw on many customers’ faces, it looked as though they were all as happy as I was with our food and the service. My waiter was new but he was very friendly and eager to please.
I look forward to returning to Trevino’s soon with my wife, who was out of town. We’ll likely bring some friends, too, because I’m sure they’ll enjoy the food and comfortable atmosphere.
The only downside I saw was when customers first walk in the front door, there’s just a very small area to stand or sit in while waiting for a table. But somehow Bertha managed to seat everyone within just a few minutes when I was there. I learned that the night before, there was a line around the corner to get in. I’m not surprised!
Trevino’s is open 7 days a week. Weekdays they open at 11 am and close at 9 pm, except Fridays when they close at 9:30 pm. Weekends they open at 9 am for breakfast and stay open until 9:30 pm on Saturdays and 9 pm Sundays.
They will also be opening their second location very soon in Ft. Worth at 1812 Montgomery St. in the cultural arts district.
If you need catering, just call Bertha at 214-336-4043 or email her at: firstname.lastname@example.org.
