Kaufman Co. prosecutor Mark Hasse gunned down by two gunmen
KAUFMAN TX – A Kaufman County assistant district attorney was killed this morning after being shot five times by two men wearing black tactical vests in the parking lot outside the Kaufman County courthouse annex.
Mark Hasse, 57, chief prosecutor for felony cases in Kaufman County, died as he was being transported to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Kaufman. He had worked for Kaufman County since July, 2010.
A radio station report from last hour stated the gunmen were members of the Aryan Brotherhood gang.
Rockwall police arrested a man last week who stole a rifle and ammunition from a vehicle in Lakeside Village, whom residents said is a member of the same gang.
The Kaufman Co. Sheriff is asking for the public’s help to find the two gunmen.
“We’re going to find you, we’re going to pull you out of whatever hole you’re in, we’re going to bring you back and we’re going to let the people of Kaufman County prosecute you to the fullest extent of the law,” DA Mike McLellan said at a news conference today.
Witnesses said Hasse was ambushed as he got out of his car in the parking lot of the courthouse annex on Washington Street about 9 a.m.
The suspects escaped in an older model dark silver or dark brown Ford Taurus according to witnesses.
Multiple law enforcement agencies including the Kaufman Police Department, Kaufman County Sheriff’s Department, DPS and FBI are now looking into the criminal cases on Hasse’s calender, as well as his past cases.
Kaufman Police Chief Chris Aulbaugh told CBS 11-TV News that Hasse’s shooting appears to have been a targeted attack and that authorities have no elevated concern for the general public.
