ROCKWALL – Rockwall County is the fastest growing retail market in the state, more than double the next highest market, according to the Texas Retail Survey 2012 just announced.
The study looked at new retail market growth rates for the 50 largest county retail markets in Texas, ranked by annual retail sales growth from 2006-2011.
Using 2011 retail sales data, Rockwall Co. has been the fastest growing retail market during the five year period at 17.9%, followed by Randall Co. at 7%.
“The fastest growing retail market during the five year period was Rockwall County (17.9% annually), followed by Randall with an annual growth rate of 7.0%,” wrote Survey spokesman Jim Vaughn in an email to the Rockwall Economic Development Corporation (REDC).
“Twenty-six of the 50 largest counties had annual growth in retail sales that exceeded the statewide norm of 2.7%. Four of the 50 counties experienced negative annual growth during the five year period.”
Sheri Franza, President and CEO of the REDC, said Rockwall has attracted big retail brand names recently, such as Costco, Tom Thumb, Home Goods, and Jo-Ann Fabrics; as well as a host of popular well-known restaurant chains like Mi Cocina, In-N-Out Burger, Logan’s Roadhouse, Olive Garden, Five Guys Burgers and Fries, Freebirds World Burrito and Campisi’s at the Harbor.
“Quality retail and restaurants the caliber and name recognition of these brands help us sell Rockwall to new businesses looking to relocate or expand in Rockwall,” she said.
Construction will begin again soon on the multi-million dollar Trend Tower and Harbor Heights mixed use commercial and residential development on the hill called PD-32 above the Harbor, developer Russell Phillips told The Rockwall News this week. The development will bring many more businesses and restaurants to Rockwall.
