Swimming For Gold: Special Olympics Duo From Rockwall County Headed To Global Meet In Puerto Rico
NeighborsGo.com – Heath resident Socorro Hettinger hired a private swim teacher for her son Daniel when he was 10.
News reports about child drownings always struck a chord with her, and she was determined that her son would not be a victim.
Daniel, who is intellectually disabled, struggled. After one lesson, the teacher told Socorro the boy would not learn how to float, much less swim.
Congrats to these hard working swimmers. I’ve known Daniel for years and have always enjoyed his enthusiasm as he greeted everyone who came thru the doors of the YMCA. I know you 2 will represent Rockwall well.
