Football season kicks off tonight with Naaman Forest at Heath
ROCKWALL – The 2012 high school football season kicks off tonight when Rockwall-Heath hosts Garland Naaman Forest in the “Honor Before Victory” Classic at 7 pm at Wilkerson-Sanders stadium.
Rockwall hosts West Mesquite tomorrow night at 7 pm in the second game of the Classic at Wilkerson-Sanders.
Royse City will travel to Forney to play at 7:30 pm tomorrow night.
The will be the first season that Rcokwall-Heath and Rockwall will compete as Class 5A teams in District 12-5A, with Mesquite, Mesquite North, Mesquite Horn, Longview and Tyler Lee.
Royse City remains in Class 4-A but will now play in District 13-4A competing against Denison, Sherman, Greenville, McKinney North, Lovejoy, Wylie and Wylie East.
Head Coach Mickey Moss (above), who has a 36-12 record and three playoff appearances in four years at Heath, has an overall record of 136-69 in 19 seasons as a head coach. He lettered for four years as a linebacker at Southern Arkansas University before coaching linebackers at the University of Texas while obtaining his M.Ed. in Athletic Administration in Austin.
Heath will return much of the strong defense that anchored last year’s 11-2 playoff team. Returning starters at defensive end are both Texas A&M commits: 6’4,” 235 lb. Jay Arnold and 6’4,” 255 lb. Jordan Points. Baylor recruit Raaquan Davis (6’2,” 208 lbs.) plays linebacker.
Anchoring the offensive will be 6’3″, 274 lb. lineman Chase Regian, a Lousiana-Monroe commit for next year.
Senior Chase Schultz will play quarterback, after backing up Cody Court last year. Sophomore sensation Rico Henderson returns at running back. Expected to be a leading receiver is senior Shyon Motlagh, who performed well in that position last year.
