Fireworks damage playground at Rockwall County school

(WFAA-TV News) FATE, Texas — Parents are calling it an irresponsible act of carelessness. They want to know who set off illegal fireworks at their kids’ school in Fate Monday night, igniting a blaze that caused major damage to the playground.

The fire at the Miss May Vernon Elementary playground in this small Rockwall County town claimed the climbing wall; it melted away. Most, if not all of the equipment must be replaced, a cost of more than $50,000.

“I think it’s sad,” said Bo Lancaster, a student.
