Rockwall County 4th of July events begin tonight in Royse City

ROCKWALL – The skies over Rockwall County will be lit up with fireworks this weekend as 4th of July celebrations begin June 29 in Rockwall, Royse City and Rowlett.

In Royse City the annual 4thFest Celebration is June 29, from 7- 10 pm, at the Royse City High School Football Stadium, FM South FM 2642. Fireworks begin at approximately 9:15 pm.

In Rockwall, the Allure Restaurant at Chandler’s Landing will host a poolside party and fireworks open to the public, beginning at 8 pm, with recording artist GOGA. Fireworks will begin offshore about 9:15 pm.

Soutwest Kia and The Harbor will present FreedomFest 2012 July 1 in Rockwall, beginning at 5 pm with live music. Fireworks begin about 9:15 pm over Lake Ray Hubbard.

Two parades will kick off Independence Day activities July 4th, presented by the City of Heath at 9 am and by the City of Rockwall/TheRockwallNews.com at 11 am.

The Heath parade will feature the 2012 State Champion Rockwall-Heath High School baseball team, Heath State Long-Jump/Triple-Jump Champion Brianna Richardson and Heath State 200-yd. Freestyle Swimming Champion Claire Walters. The new route will begin in front of Amy Parks Elementary School at 330 Laurence Dr. , head west to Larry Dr. and then wind its way to the Heath High School baseball field, where athletes will be recognized and traditional popsicles served.

The new Rockwall area-wide parade will feature the 2012-2011 back-to-back State Champion Girls Gymnastics team and State 50-yd. Swimming Champion Raena Eldridge from Rockwall High, Fox4-TV News Anchor Heather Hays, the Sons of the American Revolution Color Guard, Cowgirl Congress Rodeo Drill Team on horseback and “Voice of Rockwall” announcer Gary Freedman, a former leading Houston radio personality.

Co-sponsored by Community Bank, Randall Noe Auto Group and Coldwell-Baner realtor Peg Pannell Smith, it will  follow the same route as the past several years, beginning at Kaufman & S. Clark Streets (in front of Dobbs Elementary School), turn west down Washington St. and then north to the Old County Courthouse “On The Square.”

After the parade is over, food and entertainment will be provided by area restaurants, vendors, El Cayote Rojo Tex-Mex restaurant owner Norma Valles and Rockwall’s Got Talent winner Amber Carrington.

The City of Rockwall’s spectacular fireworks show will begin at dusk, about 9:15 pm, at the Harry Myers Park lake, preceeded with live music  by Jeanne Lay & The Loose Cannons from 6-9 pm. 

Fireworks on Main in Rowlett will begin at 5 pm on Main St. in Downtown Rowlett. Live music will be provided by the Bon Jovi cover band Blaze of Glory, plus the JD Cobb Band. There will be food and children’s activities.

Parking is available at Coyle Middle School (4500 Skyline) and Herfurth Park (4600 Centennial). DART Shuttles will also run from Rowlett High School (4700 Main Street) to Downtown.
