Jovan Hernandez (shown above) will take the mound this evening for the Hawks, which beat Montgomery, 6-3, in yesterday’s afternoon Semi-Final game. The Hawks had nine hits, including a two-run double by Russell Hughes that broke open a tight game. Jake Thompson pitched a complete game, despite a great deal of pain after being hit in the foot in the second inning by a line drive, which caused him to lose some control and walk several batters.

Cleburne came from behind, overcoming a 0-6 deficit, and defeated Lake Travis, 9-7, in the nightcap Semi-Final. The Yellow Jackets scored six runs in the fourth inning to tie the game, then each team scored another run, leaving the score tied after seven innings. In the top of the eighth, Cleburne’s┬áConner Martyniuk singled home two runs after they loaded the bases with no outs, and they held on for the victory.

Fox Sports Southwest is webcasting all of the UIL state baseball championship games, June 6-9, either via its website or on TV, where only the 5A championship game will be broadcast on the main Fox Sports Southwest TV channel.
