5th Appeals Court races: Evans vs. Whitehill in Run-off Election; Lewis wins Place 9

DALLAS – In two hotly-contested judicial races affecting Rockwall County, Judge David Evans (left) and attorney Bill Whitehill were the top two finishers in yesterday’s GOP Primary Election for Justice, Fifth Court of Appeals, Place 2.

Since no one received more than 50 percent of the vote, they will now face each other in the July 31 Run-off Election.

Judge Evans received 35,416 votes (32%) and attorney Bill Whitehill received 29,208 (26%).

Appeals Court attorney Kevin Keith finished third with 16,047 votes (14%), former Judge Jeff Coen had 15,514 votes (14%) and former Judge Jennifer Balido 14,768 votes (13%).

Evans and Whitehill also led in Rockwall County, with 31 and 29 percent of the voting, respectively.  Keith (14%), Coen (14%) and Balido (13%) followed.

For Justice, Fifth Court of Appeals, Place 9, attorney David Lewis upset incumbent Justice Martin Richter with 54,971 votes (54%) to 47,095 votes (46%), respectively.

In Rockwall County, Lewis also won, 57% to 43%.

Eighteen percent, or 8,479 voters out of 46,131 Republican and Democrat registered voters in Rockwall County, cast ballots during the Texas Primary Election.
