Re-elect Julie Zurek to Heath City Council Place 3

HEATH – Julie Zurek has done a wonderful job serving as a Heath City Council member since she was first elected in 2000.

She should be re-elected again in Place 4, for what she says will be her final two-year term.

There are many good reasons why we endorse Zurek (shown above with her husband, RISD school board member Craig Zurek).

First, she’s committed to keeping taxes and costs low. No tax increases have occurred since she was first elected to the Council in 2000. She has worked hard to watch over and justify every dollar spent by the City, controlling costs and seeking revenue enhancement opportunities.

Second, she has a proven history of voting for the delivery of quality services, including new water systems, expanded and improved sewer service, transformation to a Public Safety department, plus new parks and trails. She was the “driving force” behind building the City’s first park, as well as beautiful Terry Park on the lake.

Third, she’s extremely well-respected and well-liked by residents and city leaders alike. We’ll quote a few of the people who have worked with her and know her best, who have endorsed her.

Health Mayor John Ratcliffe said:

“Julie has been a strong and passionate force behind many of the decisions that have made Heath such a wonderful place to live. I hope that our community continues to benefit from Julie’s leadership by re-electing her on May 12th.”

Recently-elected Heath City Council member Justin Holland stated:

“Julie has 100% support from my family. In the important times we face for the future of our city, it’s Julie’s experience that matters most in this race. We can’t afford to lose her strong track record of performance and sound judgment on the council.”

Now retired City Manager Dennis Watson wrote:

“Without question, Julie has played a major role in the development of the city we know today as Heath.  Re-elected, I have all the confidence that she will continue the high level of devoted service we have come to expect.”

Heath Planning and Zoning Commission Chairman Dennis Conder stated:

“I have closely observed Julie’s work on the Heath City Council for a number of years, and can state Julie’s actions and tireless work as a council member are always in the best interest of the citizens of Heath.  She brings sound decision making to every meeting, and is a true asset to the City of Heath.  I whole-heartedly endorse her for re-election.”

Her opponent, Joan Ream, showed she is not up to the task of replacing Zurek at the recent debate sponsored by the Rockwall County Republican Women and Young Republicans. Ream displayed a poor demeanor and caused a disturbance by complaining about the simple rules publicly after agreeing to them beforehand.

In addition, she has not given voters any good reason to vote for her. Plus she voted for Pres. Obama in 2008, as the voting records show, to which her neighbors can attest because of the Obama sign that was in her front yard. We are not pleased with Pres. Obama’s policies and find it hard to support his supporters.

Either on City/School Board Election Day, May 12, or during  early voting going on now through May 8, we highly recommend you vote for and re-elect Julie Zurek to Heath City Council Place 3.
