Dallas Morning News endorses Jim Pruitt in House District 33 race

DALLAS – The Dallas Morning News late last night endorsed Rockwall attorney and former twice-elected Dallas County Criminal Court Judge Jim Pruitt in the House District 33 race for the open State Representative seat over businessman Scott Turner.

The Republican Primary election for voters in Rockwall and portions of Collin County is scheduled May 29.

The newspaper described Turner as “a well-spoken young man with an inspiring life story,” and added:  “One day, with time, seasoning and a deeper understanding of issues important to Texans, he could prove to be a leader in the electoral arena.”

But the News’ editorial staff wrote:  “That day is not yet, especially when Republican voters in the new state House District 33 have a thoughtful, experienced alternative in Jim Pruitt, a former Dallas County criminal court judge.”

Pruitt’s vast amount of experience as Dallas County’s presiding judge, plus time spent in Austin advocating for criminal justice system reforms, won him the nod, according to the newspaper.
