Dallas Morning News endorses Judges Evans, Richter for Appeals Court

DALLAS – The Dallas Morning News has endorsed Judge David Evans (left photo) for Fifth Court of Appeals Place 2 and Judge Martin Richter for Place 9 in the Republican Primary Election May 29.

The newspaper’s editorial staff wrote that voters in Dallas, Collin, Grayson, Hunt, Kaufman and Rockwall counties “could hardly go wrong” with any of the five candidates for Place 2 but “in a very close call” endorsed Evans,
“based on his excellent reputation as a trial court judge, respect for his intellect, hard work and professionalism, and recognition of his pro bono services and leadership abilities.”

Judge Martin Richter was described as “a sharp candidate” who is seeking his third term on the Court.

“Richter has solid judicial experience over the last 21 years,” the newspaper worte. “Twelve have been on this appellate bench, which serves Dallas, Collin, Grayson, Kaufman, Hunt and Rockwall counties.”

“Richter is a steady judge with relevant experience, who would give Republicans a strong candidate to face Democrat David Hanschen in November.”

Richter’s opponent, attorney David Lewis, was described as lacking the same deep experience and temperament. He has never served as a judge, having lost two previous judicial elections.
