2012 Rockwall County GOP Convention scheduled April 21 at new Courthouse

ROCKWALL – Rockwall County Republican Party Chairman Tony Fisk has announced that the 2012 County GOP Convention will be held Saturday, April 21, at the new County Courthouse, 1111 E. Yellowjacket Ln.

Registration will begin at 8 a.m.

As part of the statewide and national Republican convention process, the convention is held in even-numbered election years to choose delegates and alternates to the State Convention in Ft. Worth, June 7-9. Resolutions and statements on policy issues will also be determined and then be sent to the State Convention for eventual inclusion in the State and National Party platforms.

All attendees have the right to seek to become a state delegate and to bring forth resolutions for consideration by the convention, said Fisk.

In past election cycles, the County convention has been held in mid-March, two weeks after the March primary election. Because of federal court involvement and changes to the 2012 Texas primary elections, a three-judge panel in San Antonio issued a court order that moved the date of the convention back into April.

Fisk said the State Party has issued a clear set of guidelines to bring all conventions into compliance with the court order and Rockwall County Republicans are ready to execute these procedures as they move forward with the convention.

“Although the timing of this year’s convention schedule has changed for Rockwall County Republicans, we are more enthusiastic than ever about coming together for this important event and ready to get to work on our duties that day,” he said.

“On behalf of our County party, I invite all interested Rockwall County Republicans to join us on Saturday, April 21 at the new County Courthouse to participate in a full day of important discussions and decisions that will carry forward to our State Republican Convention and beyond.”

Traditionally, the County convention has been open to any registered voter in Rockwall County who either voted in that year’s Primary Election, or who took an oath of affiliation and identified himself or herself with the Republican Party of Texas. Fisk said the County Republican Convention will continue that tradition this year.

He added that a complete list of convention participants will be maintained by the County Party, and submitted to the Rockwall County Elections Office for their record-keeping after the convention.
