2 Tornadoes destroy 20 homes in Diamond Creek, NW of Forney

FORNEY – Media reports have confirmed that two tornadoes destroyed 20 homes in the Diamond Creek subdivision northwest of Forney this afternoon between 4-5 pm.

No injuries have been reported.

Emergency crews have been going door-to-door for the past hour to check on families.

Several families have told radio & TV News reporters they took cover just in time before the storms hit. They said they heard the “train sound” and knew it was coming.

One woman told a Fox4 TV-News reporter than she was taking care of two young children when she saw one tornado about to hit. She said she laid down on the youngest child in the bathroom and literally felt the powerful wind pulling the child away from her but she managed to hang on until the wind subsided. They then had to crawl out of the house which was completely destroyed.

Police are not yet allowing anyone to enter the damage zone until the area has been inspected and is judged safe, according to news reports.

An elementary school also experienced some damage but reports are sketchy at this moment.

Many evening activities have been postponed or cancelled across Kaufmann County, nearby Rockwall County and across DFW.
