Heart of Heath 5K walk/run scheduled April 7 at City Hall

HEATH – The City of Heath’s annual “Heart of Heath” 5K race/walk is scheduled April 7 to raise funds for the City’s parks and trails system.

Rain or shine, the run will begin at 8:30 am at Heath City Hall, 200 Laurence Dr.

Over 300 men, women and children have attended past events and that number is expected again this year, with dry, sunny weather in the forecast.

Last year 15-year-old Matthew Hearn (center photo above) with the Rockwall Mustangs had the best overall time of 17:33. Kim Stark (center photo above) of the Rockwall RRC has the second best time and best female time of 18:39.

The 2012 event will feature a USATF certified course, expanded race categories and fast and accurate results with RIFD tags. New to the event this year is the “Little Bunny Run” for children aged five and under.

A long-sleeved dri-fit shirt bearing the Heart of Heath logo will be given to each participant – while supplies last – and drawings will be held after the event for door prizes donated by local merchants.

The early registration fee is $20 by April 5; and $25 thereafter, including the morning of the race. The youth registration fee is $10 in advance and at the race.

Pre-registration packet pick up will be Friday, April 6 from noon to 6 pm at Rockwall Running Center, 811 E. Yellow Jacket Lane. Packet pickup and registration at the race will begin at 7:30 am with an 8:15 warm up.
