State Senate candidate Bob Hall disqualified by GOP from running against Deuell

AUSTIN – State Senate District 2 candidate Bob Hall was disqualified from running against three-term incumbent Sen. Bob Deuell Friday night by the Texas Republican Party after officials discovered that Hall did not meet the residency requirement of having lived in Texas for the past five years.

According to Texas GOP Communications Director Chris Elam, once it was discovered that Hall had written in two places on the application that he had only lived in Texas for about two years, his application was rejected.

Contacted last night by TheRockwallNews.com, Hall said he does not have a Texas residency problem and does not intend to withdraw from the race.

“I do not have a Texas residency problem,” he said. “We bought our home in Rockwall in 2002. I made a clerical error on the application which I turned in to the GOP last December. The GOP waited until there was less than one hour before the closing at 6 pm last Friday to notify me of the error.”

“I have not withdrawn and do not intend to do so.”

According to the Rockwall Appraisal District’s records, Bobby E. Hall owned a mobile home at 129 Meandering Way in Fate/Royse City appraised at $26,810 in 2002 and 2003.

On his campaign web site, at www.votebobhall.com, it reads that he and his wife, Kay, “began building a retirement home at Tailwind Airpark in Van Zandt County” near Edgewood, where they have lived ever since.

It is not yet known where they lived between 2004 and 2008.

Elam confirmed that Hall did speak with Texas Republican Party officials yesterday in an attempt to clear up the matter but, as of this morning, he is still disqualified because Hall failed to submit his correct application by 6 pm Friday.

“The time to amend the application was before 6 pm Friday,” said Elam.

Sen. Deuell emailed TheRockwallNews.com last night that he understands Hall has only lived in Texas for about two years and he can therefore not run.

“Our Constitution requires five years,” wrote Sen. Deuell. “We think the Constitution should be protected and followed.”

Sen. Deuell represents Rockwall, Hunt, Van Zandt, Delta, Fannin, Hopkins, and Rains Counties, plus much of eastern Dallas County.

Further statements are expected today from Hall and the Texas Republican Party.

  1. Informed SD 2 Voter says:

In order to vote absentee in Florida elections one must be an eligible voter of that state. In order to be an eligible voter, one must be a resident of Florida. Ergo, Mr. Hall was either a resident of Florida in 2008 or voter fraud was apparently committed.

  2. Bob Hall says:

I have never voted in two different states for the same election.

  3. Lilly Abraham says:

Did Mr. Bob Hall vote in both the Florida and Texas elections during the past five years?
