Rockwall girls basketball team nearing another State Championship

The Rockwall girls sixth-ranked area basketball team built a 12-point halftime lead and then held off a West Mesquite rally to win 36-34 in the Region II-4A final yesterday.

They are now one of four teams to advance to the state tournament March 1- 3 in Austin.

The Lady Jackets (33-7) will play Victoria Thursday, March 1, at 8:30 pm in Austin.

Tickets are available at Rockwall High School and the Rockwall ISD Athletics office.

The Lady Jackets were the undefeated State Champions in 2010.

West Mesquite pulled within a point at 35-34 before Alyssa Lang made the first free throw in a one-and-one situation with 8 seconds remaining.
The Lady Wranglers grabbed the rebound and took the ball down court but lost it before they could take a shot.
Leading the Lady Jackets’ victory were Lang and Paige Turner with 10 points each.
The District 10-4A champion defeated Frisco Centennial in bi-district 70-41; Dallas Kimball in area 65-23; and last year’s state champions, Dallas Lincoln, in regional quarterfinals 50-42.
