Meet Rep. Cindy Burkett, other candidates at new political club meeting Oct. 20

GARLAND – The general public is invited to come meet State Rep. Cindy Burkett and other local candidates at the new Lake Ray Hubbard Pachyderm Club luncheon meeting, Oct. 20 at noon at the Texas Land & Cattle Steak House, 4881 Bass Pro Dr. Garland 75043 (on I-30 next to Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World).

The new non-profit political club is the official northeast Dallas suburban chapter of the National Federation of Pachyderm Clubs (, an official allied organization of the Republican Party. Other Pachyderm clubs meet regularly for lunch in downtown Dallas, Houston, San Antonio and many more cities across the U.S.

According to local club founder J.J. Smith, the mission of Pachyderm Clubs is to promote active citizen involvement & education in government & politics. A pachyderm is an order of mammals including elephants, hippopotami and rhinoceroses.

“Our local club is specifically for men, women & teens living & working in the Lake Ray Hubbard area (Garland, Mesquite, Rowlett, Rockwall, Royse City, Forney, Sachse, Greenville, etc.) but anyone who would like to attend and/or join is welcome,” he said.
“Pachyderm Club activities are meant to add to but not compete with what other official Republican groups are doing – in essence to educate the general public about Republican Party principles and recruit more members.”

Meeting programs will regularly feature candidates running for office, legislators teaching us more about government, and additional political & government experts leading discussions about timely topics and the issues of the day.

Smith said invitations to speak have already been extended to presidential candidate Ron Paul, U.S. Senate candidates Ted Cruz, David Dewhurst, Elizabeth Ames Jones, and Tom Leppert, plus other local candidates for future meetings in November, December and in 2012.

The group lunch menu in the lakeside restaurant’s private room that seats 80-100 persons will cost $16.50 per person, including your choice of five entrees (steak, steak & wedge salad, salmon, chicken or pork chop), salad, bread, two sides, drink and tip. The restaurant accepts cash or debit/credit cards but no checks.
Club member dues are just $3.50 per month or $42 for the whole year. Cash or checks but no credit cards are currently accepted. Those interested in joining can pay dues at the luncheon, before or after.
