Expect some traffic delays Sunday morning from Toyota Triathlon

ROCKWALL – Rockwall residents should expect some traffic delays this Sunday when the Toyota US Open Triathlon – the final event in the “Race to the Toyota Cup” series – will again be hosted by the City of Rockwall at The Harbor.

Last year – the first time the event was held – traffic on Highway 205 was so congested in the morning that many church-goers had a difficult time reaching their services on time.

This year, a new bike route was designed for better traffic flow, according to Rockwall Parks & Recreation Department Director Brad Griggs, but residents can expect “some delays between 7 am and 2 pm.”

He said the swim event will start at 7 am. and the last runner should finish about 2 pm.

Presented by Life Time Fitness, a triathlon is a three-event race that includes a swim event followed by a cycling and then a running event. Of the more than 1,000 that competed in the 2010 triathlon, about 35 were professional athletes.

“This event added a significant amount of money to our economy. It also gave Rockwall world-wide attention,” said Griggs.
