Thieves steal 140 wheels off 35 cars at Heritage Buick GMC

ROCKWALL – Thieves made off with 140 tires and wheels from 35 new and pre-owned cars from Heritage Buick GMC on I-30 next to Rockwall High School early Sunday morning, July 24.

According to Rockwall Police, they received a report about missing wheels at Heritage about 10:13 am Sunday. Upon arrival, responding officers discovered numerous vehicles sitting on wooden blocks with their wheels and tires missing.

Dealership owner Robert Bobo said Rockwall Police then called him Sunday morning and told him that 35 of his new and pre-owned vehicles were up on blocks and stripped of their 20-inch tires and wheels.

Bobo said it’s not uncommon for car dealerships to occasionally be the victim of such a crime, but that a theft of this magnitude is not only rare, but unprecedented in his experience.

“Dealerships deal with minor incidences frequently.  I’ve been in the car business over 20 years and I’ve never heard of a theft of this magnitude,” said Bobo. “The police indicated to me that they have never had a report of a theft of this many tires/wheels at one location.”

He added that a security guard is used inside the dealership but not outside.

Bobo said Heritage will be offering a reward for information leading to the arrest of those responsible for the theft.

Investigating officers and detectives are reviewing evidence collected at the scene. Anyone with information should contact Rockwall Police at 972-771-7716 and Rockwall County Crime Stoppers at 972-771-TIPS (8477). Callers may be able to obtain a cash reward while remaining anonymous.
