Pankratz beats Jackson by 8 votes in Rowlett Council run-off election

ROWLETT – Title company attorney Carl Pankratz unofficially beat incumbent business owner Patrick Jackson by eight votes in their run-off election yesterday for Rowlett City Council seat Place 3.

Pankratz (above left) received 365 votes (50.55%) to Jackson’s 357 (49.45%) of the 722 total votes cast.

He also received more of the early vote totals, 230 votes to 185 for Jackson.

In the general election May 14, Pankratz actually finished third behind Ron Miller and Jackson and appeared to have lost his chance to join the Council.

But in a surprise move, when Mayor Pro Tem Todd Gottel gave up his Council seat to run for Mayor in the upcoming July 16 election, Miller decided to forego a run-off against Jackson in favor of running for Gottel’s seat against two virtually unknown candidates.

That decision then forced the run-off between Jackson and Pankratz, a member of one of Rowlett’s earliest families.

In the July 16 special election, Todd Gottel is the only mayoral candidate. Miller is running against Duane Fecher and Arlan ‘Brownie’ Sherrill.
