Benefit dinner June 10 for 10-year-old just diagnosed with cancer

ROCKWALL – A benefit picnic dinner will be held June 10 for 10-year-old Hannah Rathje, a Celia Hays Elementary School student who was just diagnosed with a rare form of muscular cancer called Synovia Sarcoma.

She is pictured above with her 4th grade teachers Schauna Callaway, Debbie Barineau and Jane Braddock.

The dinner will be held at 6 pm at Celia Hays, in conjunction with the previously-scheduled City of Rockwall “Family Fun Night,” which includes a movie, bounce house, obstacle course and more for families.

The school is located at 1714 Tannerson Dr. Rockwall 75087, at the intersection of FM 552 and FM 1141, just east of Williams Middle School.

Her teachers are organizing the benefit. According to Callaway, Hannah started chemotherapy Monday and will undergo six rounds that will last five days each, 21 days apart. Financial donations will be gratefully accepted for the Rathje family.

The dinner will include lots of hot dogs, bar-b-cue, elk burgers, chips and more, donated by local residents and businesses, including:

  • Soulman’s BBQ
  • Schieberle’s Elk Burgers
  • Tom Thumb Food Stores
  • Ben E. Keith Foods
  • Wal-Mart
  • Marc Heinig at US Foods
