RISD Board Trustee Stan Lowrance running for re-election

ROCKWALL – Two-term Rockwall ISD Board Trustee and dentist, Dr. Stan Lowrance, is running for his third and final three-year term in the May 14 school board election.

Early voting started May 2 and continues through May 10.

Realtor Stephanie Adams and technical project leader Randy Oakes are challenging him for the non-paid position.

Currently the Finance Committee Chairman of the RISD school board, plus  the son of a school superintendent and coach, Dr. Lowrance said education and teachers have run in his family for years and are dear to his heart.

“This is my sixth year on the board. Having my Dad as a superintendent and teachers as family and friends has given me great insight from their perceptive,” he said.

“My Dad was a school teacher, coach and superintendent until his death in 1986. My older sister is a teacher, she married a teacher, two of their children are teachers who married teachers. My youngest sister is a teacher and one of my college age daughters is studying to be a teacher. Teachers are dear to my heart.”

He said voters should re-elect him because he has so much more experience with board matters than his opponents.

“Experience is the key difference. There is a learning curve in any organization, but especially a government office. In my sixth year I am a much better trustee now than I was my first year. I have a working relationship with other elected officials locally and on the state level.”

Dr. Lowrance, his wife, Cyndie, and family have lived in Rockwall where he has had a successful dental practice for 30 years.

They raised two daughters here who graduated from Rockwall-Heath High School in 2008 and 2010, respectively.

He started his general dentistry business in Rockwall after graduating from the Baylor College of Dentistry in 1981. He obtained his Bachelor’s Degree from West Texas State University in 1977.

He said he’s also served dental missions since 1987, with Air Transport Arm of Christ and Lakepointe Church.

In addition to his dental and RISD board experience, Dr. Lowrance has also been active in several other local organizations.

Currently a three-term board member of the Rockwall Chamber of Commerce, he is also a member of the Rockwall Noon Rotary Club. He was the Club’s Rotarian of the Year in 1988, President in 1995 and District Rotarian of the Year in 2001. He was selected as the Soroptimist Women’s Organization’s Rockwall area “Man of the Year” in 2000.

Dr. Lowrance said he has been dedicated to education in Rockwall for 30 years and wants to continue to do so.

“I have been involved in this community for nearly thirty years. My self-employed business has been here thirty years. I was involved in the schools before I had children go through RISD schools, and I will continue to be involved.”
