Rowlett burglary suspect caught who nearly killed mom, baby

ROWLETT – The ex-convict who beat up and nearly killed a 27-year-old Rowlett woman and her two-year-old baby when he set their house on fire after a burglary attempt Thursday afternoon was captured early Friday morning by Rowlett police.

According to public information officer John Ellison, Jeffery Steele was arrested at his Rowlett residence “without incident” after an anonymous tip was received at approximately 8 am.

“Steele was transported to the Rowlett Police department and remains in custody on charges of two counts of attempted capital murder with a bond of $500,000 on each count,” he explained.

Investigators, patrol officers, and support personnel worked throughout Thursday night following up on tips and dissemination to those who may have had information on Steele’s whereabouts, he added.
