Rockwall upsets Heath, nears playoff berth

ROCKWALL – Jake Steward smashed a home run and the Rockwall Yellowjackets baseball team smashed 14 hits enroute to a 6-4 upset victory over the Area’s fifth-ranked Heath Hawks Friday night, knocking Rockwall-Heath out of a first-place tie with Highland Park.
Spencer Edwards tripled for the Jackets and brothers Steve and Skyler Bean each doubled.
Winning pitcher Brewer Money pitched five innings, while Josh DeLoach gained a save after pitching two innings.
The losing pitcher was Jake Thompson, who went the distance, plus slammed a home run and a double to aid his cause.

Hawk Nick Petersen also homered and Austin Stewart hit a double.

The Yellowjackets (17-10-1) improved their record to 6-5 in District play.
Ranked fifth in the nation by Rivals.com before the loss, Rockwall-Heath (24-5-1, 9-2) will play Highland Park for the District 10-4A lead Thursday at home at 7:30 p.m.
Both teams will play Wed. night. Rockwall can clinch a playoff berth by defeating Wylie. Heath will play Wylie East.
