Petitions to sell alcohol in Fate fail to gain enough signatures

ROCKWALL – Two petitions to give Fate residents the chance to vote for the sale of alcoholic beverages in their community has failed to gain enough signatures.

Rockwall County Elections Administrator Glenda Denton told County Commissioners at their meeting last Tuesday night that Karl Butler had attempted to get the required 466 signatures needed but fell far short.

She said there were 249 signatures on the beer and wine petition and 228 on the mixed beverages petition.

County Commissioners then voted unanimously to reject both petitions.

According to Denton, applicants who apply for petitions have 60 days to get the required number of  petitions. Her staff then has 30 days to check the names on the petitions.

The petitions were returned to her office on Feb. 7.

agree, i wonder if the people who set up the petition intentionally wanted it to fail

Hmmm, the only one to benefit from not having this on the ballet would be Sigels’. Just saying.

I’ve lived in Fate for a year and didnt hear anything about this petition. Looks like they need to do a little better job getting the word out. They had 2 signature sitting in my house.
