Rockwall Council Member Glen Farris to run for Mayor

Two-term Rockwall City Council Member Glen Farris announced his candidacy for Mayor of the City of Rockwall in a news release yesterday.

First elected to the City Council in 2007,  the current Mayor Pro Tem said he is excited at the prospect of serving the citizens of Rockwall.

“I have prepared myself to be Mayor of the City of Rockwall since I moved to this community in 1999,” he wrote in his announcement release.

“I believe that I am the most qualified candidate for Mayor of Rockwall and look forward to being the official spokesperson for Rockwall.”

“I believe this is a logical step for me and I am very capable of providing excellent leadership for the Council and City. I will represent all of the citizens of Rockwall well as their Mayor.”

Farris served on the City of Rockwall Parks Board for three years and as a Planning and Zoning Commissioner for eight months before being elected to the City Council.

In his news release, Farris wrote that he has been active in government, business and the Rockwall community since 2000, when he began his community service as Committee Chairman for Cub Scout Pack #2125.

The owner of Rockwall-based Adfinity.biz, which specializes in website development, search engine optimization, online marketing and social media solutions, Farris has been a Rockwall Chamber of Commerce member since 2002 and a member of the Board of Directors since he was elected in 2006.

He served as Chairman of the Board in 2008 and on the Executive Committee from 2007 until 2009.

After joining the Chamber and becoming an Ambassador in 2002, he’s also received several awards, including “Ambassador of the Year” in 2004 and 2005, the “Spirit of Rockwall” in 2006 and 2007, “Director of the Year” in 2008 and 2009, plus the Small Business award in 2009 for Adfinity.

After completing the “Leadership Rockwall Program” in 2002, he became the Leadership Chairman and, along with other board members, ran the program for the Chamber for five years.

In the community, Farris is an active member of the Rockwall Kiwanis and the Rockwall Noon Rotary Club.

As a Kiwanian he served as President of the local club and successfully recruited the Texas-Oklahoma District Convention to Rockwall in 2009 while serving as the Convention Chairman. The convention brought over 1000 visitors to Rockwall in August, 2009.

He is also a member of the Rockwall County Republican Men’s Club.

Farris is married to Julie Farris and has five children, including a college student at Texas State University, an intern at Disneyworld in Orlando FL, and three children at different schools in the Rockwall ISD.
