According to Community of Believers Food Pantry spokesman John Kimmel, his organization teamed with Lake Pointe Church to bring the Food Bank to Lake Rockwall Estates since the church built and operates the Lake Rockwall Estates Community Center.

Enid Reyes, director of Community Ministries at Lake Pointe Church, said the food was provided to primarily Hispanic families which are struggling financially while the weather is prohibiting them from working at their outside jobs.

She said many of the people who received food had been taking ESL classes (English as a Second Language) earlier that morning at the Community Center, built and operated by Lake Pointe Church.

They try to provide food to them weekly.

“We have developed a model to meet the needs of the residents here in Lake Rockwall Estates. So our approach is holistic where we address the spiritual, intellectual and the physical needs of people.  We know that one of the physical needs is food so today we’re distributing food from the North Texas Food Bank and another ministry that is with us and, between them, they have provided food for 300 people from the neighborhood.”

Rockwall City Council member Cliff Sevier was among the many volunteers distributing food.

“Lake Rockwall Estates handing out food from the Food Bank. This is absolutely great for our community,” he said. “It shows there is a lot of participation and a lot of people who are interested in what goes on over here at Lake Rockwall Estates. I know there are a few churches and few different food pantries who are involved. I don’t know the name of all of them but I know it’s great. It’s just great for the people and I think the people are very appreciative of what we’re doing.”

Representatives from Gideons International were also on hand providing Bibles to many of those in line.
