Local schools, cities stay closed Wed. due to winter storm

All local public school districts and private schools in Rockwall, Royse City, Garland, Mesquite, Dallas and many more cities will remain closed Feb. 2 due to inclement weather and hazardous road conditions.

The emails, phone calls and notices from school districts went out late Tuesday afternoon.

Many cities and courts, including in Rockwall and Rowlett, will open at 10 am Feb. 2. Call or check websites for more info.

More than 13,000 homes across DFW lost electricity and Oncor crews are working to restore power.

DFW airport, which was closed for the first time in history for bad weather early this morning, is now reopened but local weather conditions plus winter storms across the Midwest have caused airlines to cancel hundreds of flights. The same situation is expected Feb. 2.

Dart rail, which was also stopped early today, is currently operating on a 30-minute schedule. Buses are operating but slowly. All non-24-hour HOV lanes remain closed.

Trinity Railway Express is operating a regular schedule and will have a special train in service after tonight’s Stars game.

Frigid temperatures will drop to 10 degrees tonight with the wind-chill below zero degrees. Winds will continue to blow at 20-30 mph. Light snow is still forecast.

Wednesday, temperatures will remain in single digits in the morning and rise to about 20 degrees. The wind-chill will make it feel below zero. Skies will be overcast all day.

Forecasters say Thursday will bring more of the same.
