Rockwall quarterback Alan Reed receives Built Ford Tough Award

By J.J. Smith. Rockwall High School senior quarterback Alan Reed just received another award for his outstanding play this past season – this time from the Ford Motor Company.

For his efforts in rallying the Yellowjackets to their 52-51 victory over Rockwall-Heath Oct. 15, Reed received the Week 7 “Built Ford Tough Texas High School Player of the Week” Award Nov. 23 from Rockwall Ford General Sales Manager Jon Zillioux.

“It was an honor to receive it,” said Reed. “I am so grateful for my teammates and coaches that made it possible for me to achieve the award. I am truly blessed.”

According to Ford’s Player of the Week Award website, the award “recognizes the on and off-field accomplishments of the Lone Star state’s gridiron heroes.”

It states, “Alan is involved in numerous activities around Rockwall and manages to carry a 3.3 GPA.”

Rockwall Head Football Coach Scott Smith was quoted as saying:

“He’s just a good, hard-working young man,” says Coach Smith. “He didn’t play much as a junior and he’s just getting better every week. He’s a totally hard-nosed kid and a great competitor who gives you consistently great play.”

What he did: In Rockwall’s 52-51 comeback victory against Rockwall-Heath, Reed had a hand in every yard gained by the team, rushing and passing for a combined 571 yards.

Who he is: A 5-11 ½ , 185-pound senior quarterback

The stats: 18-of-30 passing for 418 yards and 37 rushes for 153 yards.

According to Reed, he plans to play college football and has been contacted by several schools but not received any offers yet.
