New Rockwall Co. judges Rakow, Williams sworn in

By J.J. Smith. New Rockwall County judges David Rakow (left) and Brian Williams were sworn in Nov. 30 by 382nd District Court Judge Brett Hall in front of a packed courtroom of about 200 people on the second floor of the old Historic County Courthouse on the Square.

Former County Court-at-Law Judge Rakow was appointed the judge of the new Rockwall 439th District Court Nov. 2 by Texas Gov. Rick Perry.

He was sworn in first, surrounded by his family.

Former Assistant District Attorney and Civil Chief Williams was appointed by the Rockwall County Commissioners Nov. 23 to replace Rakow.

He was sworn in second, surrounded by his mother – former Rockwall Mayor Alma Williams – his father and sister.

Rockwall Bar Association President Jeff Shell congratulated both men afterward.

Both judges have begun their duties and are now presiding over cases.

Judge Rakow is presiding over Rockwall’s second felony court on the second floor of the Rockwall County Government Center.

Judge Williams is presiding over Rockwall’s lone misdemeanor court in what was formerly the auxiliary courtroom on the first floor.

A video report showing the swearing in ceremony is now available on the Home page of TheRockwallNews.com, as well as on The Rockwall News channel on YouTube.com.
