Rockwall County loses more jobs in October

By J.J. Smith. Rockwall County lost more than 130 jobs between September and October, as the local unemployment rate rose slightly last month to 7.4 percent.

The numbers were still below the record unemployment figures of 7.7 percent posted for October 2009, according to a report from the Texas Workforce Commission.

Rockwall County reported a 7.4 percent unemployment rate last month, compared to 7.3 percent in September and the 7.7 percent rate recorded 12 months ago.

There were 36,334 people reported as employed last month, a loss of 138 positions from September, but representing an increase of 408 jobs when compared to October one year ago.

There were 2,901 people listed as unemployed in Rockwall County during October, 29 more than in September, and 108 fewer more than in October 2009.

The county’s civilian labor force lost 109 people between September and October.
