Rockwall wins on last-minute FG, 16-14; RC wins; Heath, Rowlett lose

By J.J. Smith. ROCKWALL – Travis Shinn kicked a 29-yard field goal with 13 seconds left in the game to help Rockwall nip McKinney North last night, 16-14, in District 10-4A action at Wilkerson Sanders stadium.

The Yellowjackets (4-2, 5-4) fell behind with under two minutes on the clock after McKinney North (3-3, 5-4) quarterback Brylen Williams scored the go-ahead touchdown to cap off a 53-yard drive.

Rockwall then rallied – as it has so often this season – moving 55 yards in five plays to get into field goal range for Shinn.

UNIVERSITY PARK – Highland Park scored two touchdowns in the final 22 seconds of the first half and won the District 10-4A title, beating Heath, 49-21.

Highland Park (9-0, 6-0) will be the top seed from 10-4A in the Division II playoff bracket. The win was Highland Park’s 62nd straight at Highlander Stadium, a streak that dates to the 1998 season.

MT. PLEASANT – Royse City won its second game in a row and assured itself a District 10-13A playoff berth by defeating Mt. Pleasant, 24-19. No details are available.


Two of Rowlett quarterback Colton Kalmus’ passes were intercepted and returned for touchdowns in a 21-point third quarter as McKinney Boyd surprised Rowlett, 41-17.

Despite the loss, Rowlett is assured of making the playoffs with one game to play and is now tied for first place in District 10-5A with Boyd (5-1, 7-2) and South Garland (5-1, 7-2).
