Forney parents arrested for allegedly exposing toddler to marijuana

By J.J. Smith. A Forney couple was arrested Wednesday on child endangerment charges after Kaufman County Sheriff’s investigators determined that their two-year-old passed out last month from marijuana intoxication.

Liandro Flores, 31, and April Flores, 24, were taken into custody after an incident at their home Aug. 25 when paramedics found the 2-year-old unresponsive and transported the child to Children’s Medical Center Dallas.

According to the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Department, doctors there found the level of toxicity in the child’s system was too high to be caused by “passive inhalation,” or secondary smoke. That led sheriff’s investigators to believe that the child was intentionally exposed to marijuana, and they arrested the couple.

The parents have since been released on $5,000 bail.

Children’s Protective Services is now caring for the child.
