Rockwall’s Old Downtown Rib, Rub & Run this Saturday

By J.J. Smith. Rockwall’s Old Town Courthouse Square will be a busy place again this weekend with Barbecue Cook-off competitions, a “Poker Stroll,” live music, food and children’s activities as the second annual Rib, Rub and Run event takes place between 8:30 and 5:30 pm.

Sponsored by the Historic Rockwall Main St. Association, activities will begin with a 5K Run organized by the Rockwall Running Center, located on the Square.

The Rib Rub is a sanctioned barbecue competition open to all barbecue enthusiasts, according to Main St. Manager Bethany Golden. The International Barbecue Cookers Association sanctions the event and over 25 teams are expected to enter this year’s competition.

“Teams may enter to cook all or some of the following: baby backs, pork spare ribs & chicken. In addition to prize money, trophies will also be awarded to top performers and best showmanship,” she said. “Over 90 percent of the entry fees are paid out as prize money.”

The Poker Stroll is sponsored by the Old Town Shoppes of Downtown Rockwall.

The Rockwall Farmer’s Market and San Jacinto St. Art Market will also be open Saturday morning.
