Royse City woman killed Saturday in Denison traffic accident
By J.J. Smith. A Royse City woman was killed Saturday evening when a sudden downpour of rain in Denison TX caused a pick-up truck to hydroplane on Highway 75 and veer across the median into a car driven by her husband.
The woman passenger, 72-year-old Anne Marie Theken, died from the impact. She was pronounced dead at Texoma Medical Center (shown above).
Her husband, 72-year-old James Theken, was taken by ambulance to the same hospital and appeared to be in stable condition.
Firefighters said the driver of the pickup truck was also seriously injured, but the other three passengers appeared to be in better shape. They were also taken by ambulance to the hospital.
Traffic was backed up for several miles after both vehicles flipped over and rolled down a hill.
Other drivers said the rain made conditions dangerous and slowed down traffic.
Several people were observed pulling over to help and calling 9-1-1.
A memorial service will be held at 6 pm, Friday, Aug. 13 at Rest Haven Funeral Home – Rockwall Chapel with Rev. Lyn Cypert officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the North Texas Food Bank, 4500 S. Cockrell Hill Rd, Dallas, TX 75236-2028 or online at info@ntfb.org.
