Rowlett celebrating being named top 25 “Best Places to Live” tonight with free event

By J.J. Smith. The City of Rowlett will celebrate being named one of the top 100 “Best Places to Live” in the U.S. by Money Magazine in their August, 2010, edition at an old-fashioned picnic this evening, 6-9 pm, in front of the library on Main St.

There will be free hot dogs, chips and water, live entertainment, children’s activities and a grand fireworks finale, according to City Public Information Officer Donna Huerta.

Rowlett was named the 24th best City in which to live. Only four other  Texas cities made the top 100 list:  McKinney #5, Allen #16, and Missouri City #21.

Writers from Money Magazine visited Rowlett several months ago as they toured the nation, Huerta said. They visited many sites on their own and interviewed residents, city officials, the local media and businesses. Several follow-up phone interviews and visits resulted in Rowlett’s high ranking.
