Dead body of missing Royse City woman found near Lake Tawakoni

By J.J. Smith. The dead body of a young Royse City woman who had been missing for two weeks was found Tuesday in the front yard of a house near the shores of Lake Tawakoni.

Heather Leann Pope, 29, was identified as the victim of a homicide Thursday. She had grown up and lived most of her life in Royse City, said Royse City Police Chief Carl Alsabrook.

According to Hunt County Sheriff Randy Meeks, autopsy results confirm she was murdered due to blunt force trauma to the head. He said his officers are running an around-the-clock investigation to find the killer.

Although no suspect has yet been identified, they do have someone of interest they are looking at.

“I feel confident we’ll be able to solve this case soon,” said the Sheriff.

Her body was discovered by her father, Randall Pope, and another man, who had been searching for her, in the front yard of a vacant house located in a residential subdivision on Cedar Hill Road off FM 751 in the Duck Cove area of the Lake.

The Sheriff said Pope and his friend had stopped at a local convenience store near the house Tuesday afternoon and learned several individuals had been hanging around out back. When they went around behind the store to check, they found her body.

Sheriff’s deputies were then summoned to the scene, arriving Tuesday evening.

Meeks said officers went back Wednesday and recovered additional evidence they are currently reviewing.

Funeral services are scheduled this Monday, Aug. 9, at First Baptist Church, located at 900 Pullen St. in Royse City.

Pastor Chad Hays will officiate and interment will follow in Royse City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends this Sunday, from 6 to 8 pm, at the Rest Haven Funeral Home Royse City chapel, located at  141 Main St. in Royse City.

According to her Rest Haven obituary, she is survived by her father and mother, Carla (Beheler) Pope; sister Christi Pope; special cousin Kendall Beheler; maternal grandparents Wayne & Frances Beheler; and aunt Paula Edge & husband Gary; all of Royse City; plus numerous relatives from other locations.

Memorial contributions may be made to: Crime Victims Compensation, PO Box 12198, Austin TX 78711-2198.

There is a thread on the West Memphis, Arkansas Topix forum where two women are talking about this murder and a person who’s name is Jack Peden. This Jack person is a serious meth addict and is violent. He would kill for drugs or money to buy drugs. The police need to check it out and see if they can get any information. He was in that area just recently. He has a friend Named Shawn, but I don’t know his last name, who lives in that area too.
