Thousands of County residents line Hwy. 66 for Spc. Jerod Osborne motorcade

By J.J. Smith. (Video News) Thousands of Rockwall County residents lined Highway 66 yesterday afternoon from Royse City to Fate and near Rest Haven Funeral Home in Rockwall to pay their respects to fallen soldier Spc. Jerod Heath Osborne.

Spc. Osborne was the 2008 Rockwall-Heath High School graduate who was killed July 5 in Afghanistan by a roadside bomb while serving as a U.S. Army combat medic.

His casket arrived at 1 pm at Majors Field Municipal Airport in Greenville, where a military honor guard escorted his casket to an awaiting limousine and motorcade which drove his remains past onlookers and well-wishers to Rest Haven.

Men, women and children – many holding American flags – watched in silence as his casket in a white limousine passed by, followed by a white limousine carrying his family members.

The motorcade consisted of over 100 fire and police vehicles from numerous area departments, cars driven by family and friends, plus dozens and dozens of motorcycle riders who are members of the Patriot Guard Riders. The Patriot Guard were established to assist police in fending off critics of the war.

Upon arriving at Rest Haven, a military honor guard rolled his casket from the limousine into the funeral home, and then escorted his family inside, in front of a crowd of about 100 people.

Osborne’s family will receive visitors at Rest Haven this evening from 6-8 pm. The funeral service will be tomorrow at 2 pm at Lake Pointe Church in Rockwall. Interment will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Park.
