By J.J. Smith. A 2008 Rockwall-Heath High School graduate and active duty U.S. Army combat medic was killed in Afghanistan July 5.

Jerod Heath Osborne, 20, the son of Sharon Grillett and husband Gary of Rockwall and Allan G. Osborne, III, of Caddo Mills, had just been sent to Afghanistan March 26 after a visit with family and friends and previous training at Ft. Bragg CA.

He is also survived by his sister, Hayley Grillet, of Rockwall; brothers: Wau-tash, Nako and Nah-tah-ni Grillett; and grandmother Charlotte Henson of Rockwall.

When Osborne was young his family moved from Rockwall to Seattle and then Honolulu before moving back to Rockwall to care for his grandfather who died in 1997. They have lived here ever since.

In his obituary on the Rest Haven Funeral Home website, Osborne was said to have never met a stranger.

An online memorial on Facebook has been established by friends, inviting all to share memories and photos of the young soldier.

Funeral arrangements are still pending. Watch for more details as they become available.
