20 Rockwall County baseball players named to 10-4A District Team

By J.J. Smith. Twenty Rockwall County players and coaches from Rockwall, Rockwall-Heath and Royse City were named to the 10-4A All District Baseball Team last week by District coaches.

District champion Rockwall-Heath (39-3) Coach Greg Harvey was named Coach of the Year, while four of his players were given top individual honors.

Hawk sophomore pitcher/first baseman Jake Thompson was named Co-MVP (Most Valuable Player), with Newman-Smith shortstop Brandon Mims.

Hawk sophomore third baseman/pitcher Jovan Hernandez was named Offensive MVP.

Heath senior shortstop Trevor Holland was named Defensive MVP.

Pitcher of the Year was Hawk senior James Baune.

Six additional Rockwall County players were named to the first team, including three from Rockwall-Heath, three from Rockwall and one from Royse City.

Heath players named were senior Outfielder Armando Villa, senior Designated Hitter John Branum and senior Utility Player, Tyler Harding.

Rockwall first-team players were junior Pitcher Thomas Anderson, senior Catcher J.D. DeLoach and sophomore Second Baseman Steve Bean.

Royse City senior Pitcher Scot Lane also made first team.

Second-team honors from Heath went to senior Catcher Drew Benefield, freshman Second Baseman Bret Boswell, junior Shortstop Patrick Gonzales, senior Outfielder Drew Baxter and junior Outfielder Nick Petersen.

From Rockwall senior Pitcher Wesley Cox made the second team, as did Royse City sophomore Outfielder Mitchell Venhaus.
