Heath Hawks sweep baseball playoff series, destroy Kimball, 18-3

By J.J. Smith. After Rockwall-Heath’s first 10 batters reached base, the undefeated top-ranked team in the nation went on to destroy Dallas Kimball last night, 18-3, in a 5-inning shortened game on the rain-soaked field in Heath, sweeping the playoff series and advancing to the next round.

They beat Kimball (17-12) Thursday night, 9-0.

The Hawks (36-0) were led by winning pitcher Jake Thompson, wh0 with two relievers, combined to pitch a three-hitter. He also doubled and tripled for his cause.

Hawks Jovan Hernandez and Austin Stewart each tripled. Drew Benefield and Patrick Gonzales each doubled, as part of the Hawks 15 hits.

Kimball scored its runs due in part to three unusual Hawk errors. Kimball also committed four errors.

With their hitting and pitching, the Hawks once again showed why they were named the top team in the nation for the second time in a row by USA TODAY May 13.

The next playoff series will be announced soon.
