Fate resident commits suicide

By J.J. Smith. A 62-year-old man who was a resident of the City of Fate committed suicide Wednesday.

According to Rockwall County Sheriff’s Department Lt. David Davis, Rick Tolbert was found hanging in his garage shortly after Noon by his son, John Tolbert, who immediately called 911 requesting help.

When officers and Rockwall Emergency Medical Services paramedics arrived shortly after, they found the son giving his father CPR in an attempt to revive him.

Paramedics then took over and immediately transported the man to Presbyterian Hospital of Rockwall. After finding a slight pulse, he was taken by air ambulance to Methodist Hospital of Dallas but he was pronounced dead there later in the day.

Lt. Davis said the son told Sheriff’s deputies that his father had been suffering from depression, partly as a result of receiving citations from the City of Fate for code violations. Lt. Davis said he had no idea what those were.

No other details are currently available.
