Berries blamed for bird deaths at Lake Ray Hubbard

By Richard Abshire. The Dallas Morning News. Bad berries or too many good berries.

That’s the what-done-it in a disturbing but natural turn of events many motorists reported Tuesday and Wednesday on the Highway 66 bridge that connects Rowlett and Rockwall across Lake Ray Hubbard.

Several people called in a bird die-off, hundreds of fluffy stiffs laid out the length of the span.

“They’re cedar waxwings,” said Captain Garry Collins of Texas Parks & Wildlife, from his office at I-30 and Bobtown in Garland. “It’s a natural phenomenon.”
