Rockwall-Heath beats Newman Smith, now 28-0

By J.J. Smith. Rockwall-Heath, the state’s top-ranked Class 4A baseball team, extended its remarkable 2010 winning streak to 28 straight games by defeating Carrollton Newman Smith yesterday, 9-2.

Drew Benefield hit a home run while Drew Baxter and John Branum each doubled to lead the 10-hit Hawk attack.

James Baune won his eighth straight game without a loss.

Next game for the Hawks (28-0, 10-0) will be Friday night at 7:30 pm at Royse City, which overpowered Greenville last night, 12-10.

Remaining games are against Richardson Pearce, 4/20: Carrollton Turner, 4/23; a non-district game against Richardson, 4/24; and Highland Park, 4/30.
