Rockwall-Heath stays undefeated, demolishes Highland Park, 11-1

By J.J. Smith. Twenty-five wins down and just eight more to go for a perfect 33-0 regular season. Can the Area’s top-ranked Class 4A team, Rockwall-Heath, make history and do it?

Last night the Hawks (25-0, 7-0) took a major step by demolishing the Area’s sixth-ranked team, Highland Park, 6-1, at the Scots(17-7, 6-1) home field in their battle for first place in District 10-4A.

Led by Nick Petersen, who went 3-3, with two doubles, a home run and 5 RBIs, the Hawks also outhit the Scots , 12-9.

Heath led 3-1 before breaking the game open with two runs in the fourth and four runs in the fifth.

The Scots made two errors, and the Hawks none.

Class 4A hit leader, Jovan Hernandez, went 3-4, with a home run and double, giving him 38 hits for the season. He led the area going into the game with 5 home runs and was tied with Hawk Jake Thompson for the RBI lead with 30.  Hernandez was hitting .507, seventh in Class 4A.

Thompson also homered in the game. He had 31 hits going into the game, good for fourth place in Class 4A, just behind Hawk Trevor Holland who had 32 hits.

Ace pitcher James Baune won his sixth game of the season with no losses.

Heath will next play Tuesday night at 7:30 pm at Greenville, which lost to Rockwall Thursday night, 8-1.
